C-Path’s Maaike Everts, PhD, Executive Director of its Translational Therapeutics Accelerate (TRxA), is participating in two panels at the 2024 Health Research Alliance Fall Conference. The Health Research Alliance (HRA), a collaborative member organization of nonprofit research funders, is hosting this year’s event on Tuesday, October 1 through Wednesday, October 2 in Alexandria, Va., at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) offices.

Everts will represent C-Path and TRxA, a global drug discovery and development program focused on supporting academic scientists in defining optimal strategies for advancing new, cutting-edge therapeutics from the lab to patients. She will speak during two panels, “Partnerships: Two Sides of the Same Coin” and “Unlocking Cures: Navigating the Therapeutics Frontier in Collaboration with the Federal Government.”

“Partnerships: Two Sides of the Same Coin” discusses how a thriving collaboration can be so much more than co-funding a research program. From collaborating with corporations and engaging with industry partners, to uniting with other nonprofits and consortia, diverse partnerships are key to advancing the goals of HRA member organizations. Everts will highlight C-Path’s approach to public private partnerships and will be joined on stage by experts from the ALS Association, the Arthritis Foundation and the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH).

“Unlocking Cures” discusses how to ensure any investments nonprofits make in potential new therapeutics are as impactful as possible. In this session, panelists will explore how nonprofits can complement what federal agencies support in this space, and make sure to catalyze the therapeutics development ecosystem. Everts has helped organize this panel with participants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health ( ARPA-H) to discuss how their efforts support innovative drug discovery and development, and talk about how to effectively engage with these agencies. Attendees will also hear from a trailblazer investigator who has taken a drug from conception to the clinic and discuss how different types of funding sources have helped them in their journey.
